14 February 2021
JNF’s Green Sunday Campaign is held each year in February to coincide with Tu Bishvat – A New Year for the Trees!
The campaign is supported by an annual telethon – a day of fun, community and solidarity.
NITZANA ECOLOGICAL PARK
This year marks 120 years since the establishment of JNF. Throughout our long history our Green Sunday campaign has consistently raised funds for life-changing environmental projects for the Jewish people and our beloved Israel. In 2021, we are asking you to support the people of Nitzana.
A remote and isolated community
Situated on the border with Egypt, the Nitzana region is in one of the most remote areas of Israel’s Negev. Constituting over 60% of Israel’s land mass, only 8% of the population reside in this arid area. Given the demographic pressures in the country’s centre, the development of the Negev is key to Israel’s growth, security and sustainability.
A unique oasis for families and wildlife
With your help, the 2021 JNF Green Sunday Appeal will raise much needed funds for the development of Nitzana Ecological Park. Making the most of the natural resources, this new park will be a unique desert oasis. It will include playgrounds, walking and cycling trails, and recreation and picnic areas for families. And, with an emphasis on preserving the natural ecosystem, it will also attract many rare species of birds on their migratory journey. Visitors to the park will truly have a magical experience each time they visit.
Long-term sustainable development
Unique desert challenges must be met with innovative green solutions. Therefore, the project also includes the expansion of the existing water reservoir and the recycling of wastewater for agricultural use – vital to enabling Israel’s food and border security.
Your generosity today can enrich the resilient and inspiring community of Nitzana. Together, we can transform the once barren Negev into a thriving desert landscape. Thank you for your ongoing and much-appreciated support.

Nitzana Park before and after
The project will involve expanding the existing water reservoir, taking waste water from the surrounding neighbourhoods and recycling it for agricultural use.
The park will lift the morale of Nitzana residents, enable the arrival of new families, support the growth in eco-tourism and contribute to building a viable future for the residents along Israel’s Southern periphery.
