ABOUT GOLD PATRONS & JUBILEE FOUNDATION

JNF Gold Patrons, formed in Victoria in 1992, is an association of professionals and business people aimed at facilitating contact and interaction between its members, while at the same time providing support for the JNF's environmental projects in Israel and acting as a valuable source of information on Zionist and Israeli issues.

Membership currently stands at 125, broadly in the 40-65 year age group, and is drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds, including academics, accountants, financial advisers, lawyers, the real estate and property development industry, insurance and travel agents, and manufacturers amongst others.

Financial membership is based on either a (tax deductible) $750 per year contribution to selected JNF environmental projects in Israel plus $275 annually towards the cost of functions etc or by advertising in the Gold Patrons Newsletter.

Luncheon functions are the most popular and are held up to six times a year. Typical of the high calibre speakers to address the Gold Patrons have been the Governor of Victoria, Dr Manfred Gerstenfeld (international business consultant), Dr Gottfried Wagner (author and grandson of Richard Wagner), Mr Justice Howard Nathan (Justice of the Victorian Supreme Court), Mr Alan Kohler (ABC Finance Editor), Professor Carl Wood (founder of the IVF program) and Mr Alan Oster (Chief Economist of the National Bank).

A unique function was a "Mock Trial of the Century" held in the Queens Hall of the Victorian Parliament, when three Federal Court Justices sat in judgement on a biblical figure.

Through their link to the JNF, Gold Patrons not only play an important role in strengthening the ties between the Melbourne Jewish community and Israel, but also help to attract the next generation of communal leadership.
